The Best Content Schedule for Your Google Business Profile

By Lesli Rose

If you have a Google Business Profile and you're not posting weekly, you're leaving local visibility on the table. GBP posts show up in the knowledge panel, the map pack, and increasingly in Google's AI Overviews. Here's the posting schedule we run for our NB clients.

Why GBP posts matter in 2026

Google Business Profile posts are one of the few freshness signals Google gets directly from you. An updated profile ranks better in the local 3-pack than a stale one, that's been consistent in our data since 2023. As AI search grows, structured GBP updates (hours, services, offers, posts) are what Gemini and AI Overviews cite when answering "best [service] in [city]" queries.

The weekly rhythm

  • Monday: Update this week's hours if anything differs from standard. Post a "What's New" update with a behind-the-scenes shot or a tip from your business.
  • Wednesday: Post an offer or event, a discount, a workshop, a new service, an open house. This is the slot that generates the most click-throughs.
  • Friday: Answer a question that customers actually ask. Pull from your FAQ list. This feeds AI search, Perplexity and ChatGPT quote GBP Q&A regularly.

Monthly housekeeping

  • Check that hours match your actual hours (stat holidays are the killer)
  • Add 3–5 new photos, interior, exterior, team, products/services
  • Respond to every new review, positive or negative, within 48 hours
  • Review your services list, add anything you've started offering, remove what you've dropped
  • Check insights (views, searches, actions), which search terms are driving contact

The 4 post types that actually work for NB businesses

  1. Local event posts, tying your business to something happening in your city (Ribfest Moncton, Harvest Jazz in Fredericton, sidewalk sales in Saint John). Geographic signal + freshness.
  2. Offer posts, real discounts with an end date. "20% off new-patient visits through May 31."
  3. Service spotlight posts, explaining what one service actually includes, with a photo. Kills the "do they do X?" uncertainty.
  4. Customer Q&A posts, you ask, you answer, exactly the way a real customer asked it. Best AI discoverability play available.

What doesn't work

  • Generic inspirational quotes, zero ranking value
  • Stock photos, Google knows and discounts them
  • Posts with no call to action, the click is the conversion signal
  • Cross-posting from Instagram verbatim, GBP and IG reward different content formats

The businesses we work with that post 3x/week on GBP move into the local 3-pack within 4 months on average. The ones that post once a month drift. It's the single cheapest SEO investment you can make, and it compounds.
